Paula Champion began her musical journey in her dads church at the age of four years old. Her father, now Pastor Emeritus, & her mother, a choir director, surrounded her with faith, love, & a wealth of musical influences to glean from. From Gospel, CCM, R&B, Mainstream & Jazz, Paula absorbed it all.
While growing up, Paula sang in the choir at her fathers church, in school chorus, plays & in local competitions. Yet, she never thought pursuing music as a profession was an option, so she attended Malone Christian, majoring in Broadcasting & Journalism.
On a road trip home from college, her cousin encouraged her to call into a local radio station where Gerald LeVert was looking for singers to audition for a girls group he was forming.
She called in, sang on the radio, met with Gerald LeVert & the rest is history. She began her professional career as a background vocalist for Gerald, & many other artist in R&B, Mainstream & Gospel alike.
In addition to other credits, features, performances, & television appearances, Paula Champion continues to tour with her mentor & friend, "R&B Diva", Grammy Nominated, R&B/Soul singer/songwriter/producer, Angie Stone.
Along her journey,
she has appeared on
The Mo'Nique show &
TV-One’s “Verses & Flows”
as a background vocalist with the house band. She has also worked with Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter/producer, Ne-Yo, the late-great, R&B superstar Gerald LeVert, Lowell Pye, James Fortune & FIYA, Nivea, Raheem DeVaughn, Anthony David, & Algebra; and she's also been featured on &/or has written on projects with husband & Grammy Nominated Gospel artist, Jason Champion; R&B singers, Aaron Hall & Chante Moore, & has worked with multi-platinum producers, Laney Stewart, Kuk Harrell, Pharell Williams & Chad Hugo from N.E.R.D./The Neptune's, Grammy-winning gospel producer, Aaron Lindsey; and, Grammy-nominated producers Eric Dawkins, & Roger Ryan along with many other producers & artists in mainstream, jazz & gospel.
In 2013, Paula became a Top 6 contestant on B.E.T.'s Gospel talent competition "Sunday Best" with a desire to merge her faith with her craft & to expanded her platform to be able to, "reach people of all demographics with a beautiful melody."
In summation, while Paula's mellow jazz, soul & gospel colored vocals continue to establish her in the hearts of Jazz, Soul, Mainstream, & Gospel peers, her primary focus & most crowning achievement is the joy she gets from being a devoted wife & loving mother to her two sons, Isaiah & Michael.
